Enter to Worship---Depart to Serve

Hear Althea Lewis play with  Vocalist, Phillip Johnson; "The Lily of the Valley"

In 1969, "A Historical Treasury: A History of Hickory Grove Baptist Church 1834-1969," was written by Nash A. Odum. In this historical piece, the following statement is written about Althea Lewis and her contribution to Hickory Grove's music program:

"The greatest single contribution made to all phases of church music has probably been made by Althea Lewis as church pianist for over 43 years. On November 6,1966, a special day was held to honor her continuing contribution. On this day a picnic dinner was served, in addition to regular services. Individual gifts, a love offering, and a plaque were presented to her. The plaque was inscribed."

"In Recognition of Althea Lewis by Hickory Grove Baptist Church for Faithful and Dedicated Service for More than Forty Years as Pianist Without Remuneration. Your Service Has Added Beauty and Dignity to the Worshipfulness of Hickory Grove Baptist Church and the Glory of God. In Recognition of This Service, November 6, 1966 is Proclaimed Althea Lewis Day."

"Althea Lewis continues to serve the church as pianist." (1969)
